Our unsung heroes of the DDI team are the brave walkers that work the long, trying days of the weekend. Often covering up to 15 miles in one day, many times in dark and gloomy weather, our weekend walkers work with limited support and, as a result, are independent, strong, and diligent when it comes to their dog-walking duties. Ashley has been one of the most committed of the weekend walkers since joining Dogs Deserve It in July of 2016, and we feel incredibly lucky to have someone like her staffed during the shifts that many others choose to rest for.
We wanted to feature Ashley as our walker this month to showcase the many qualities that she possesses and brings to her work each day. Please read below to get to know Ashley:
DDI: Why did you decide to become a dog walker?
Ashley: Like many walkers I know, I’ve always wanted to have a dog of my own, however my building doesn’t allow any [additional] dogs in the building. I love where I live so I decided to become a dog walker instead.
DDI: What is your favorite thing about the job? and DDI?
Ashley: I’ve been working for DDI for a little over a year now, and my favorite thing about the job would have to be being a part of the dog community here in Chicago. Whether I’m walking my regular dogs or new pups on my route, I love that so many of the DDI dogs have friends on their block, neighbors that they love, or places they like to visit; and there’s just this overall sense of love and support that both people and dogs project when I’m out walking a dog. Being a walker for DDI has really allowed me to get to know these people and pups and it’s been a blast!
