About Us

Dogs Deserve It LLC® was formed in response to the pressing need for qualified dog walkers and pet care providers in the Chicagoland area.

Owner, Lauren Pietrocarlo, identified some shortcomings in the present dog walking industry and decided to address the issues. A dog lover herself, Lauren was aware of the importance of the daily walk to the health and well being of her pet. She became determined to create a service that would maximize its potential.

Lauren worked with a well-respected trainer to learn the proper way to walk a dog, the way to introduce and reinforce positive canine behavior during this daily routine. Clients benefit from this special attention to on-leash etiquette. DDI dogs are not aimlessly paraded through city streets. Instead, their walk becomes purposeful and engaging.

In addition, pet CPR certification is required for all DDI walkers.

Pietrocarlo left the corporate world to share her long-time passion for dogs. She is now using her communications and public relations experience to bring a fresh, professional, accountable perspective to the world of pet care.

Leash Etiquette

So, what dog doesn’t love to go for a walk? For the most part, both owner and pet look forward to this “together” time. However, does the excitement sometimes turn into a battle for power? Does your dog pull on the leash and walk you, instead of you walking him?

At Dogs Deserve It®, we provide direction to reverse this frustrating behavior. Whether your dog is a puppy or a more mature dog, rest assured that this negative on-leash behavior can almost always be corrected.

Our walkers have comprehensive training in DDI leash etiquette® skills. We will implement simple and easy techniques so that your dog will walk better on the leash. All of our techniques are force-free and may involve the use of specific leashes and collars. The Deserving Dog Etiquette® option is not a requirement.

Walker Tracking

We know that it takes a “leap of faith” to allow access to your home. We respect your trust and will not abuse the privilege.

DDI offers state of the art GPS walker tracking and Dogs Deserve It pedometers.

You receive an email as soon as the walk starts and ends, along with a GPS tracked map of the walk. Our service provides more than the typical, daily anecdotal report regarding your dog’s output. We will provide a detailed daily adventure calendar to personalize your pet’s experience, including a daily manners evaluation.

We are also proud to partner with Nest, an indoor security camera used for child or dog monitoring. We believe that Nest is a natural addition to our walker tracking services. We also provide Musher’s Secret Paw Wax to all clients free of charge. As always, Dogs Deserve It is committed to providing you with the most innovative and reliable pet care service!

General Manager

“I've been an animal person since I can remember.  My  grandparents owned a kennel, growing up I worked there during the summers, meeting all kinds of dogs, cats and the occasional lizard! I guess you could say being an animal lover was in my blood. We always had a family dog, and several barn cats! When I met my dog, Havok he was only 6 months old, I immediately did my research on training, a good diet, everything! Raising and training a puppy has taught me a lot,  I try to bring all the knowledge of my own experiences into my work. Every dog is different though and learning the personality of a dog and their unique "quirks" is one of my favorite things about dog walking! I try to use these special differences to customize my approach to our daily walks, always thinking of the dog and it's individual needs first.”

Joe started at Dogs Deserve It in January of 2016, and right away knew this was a special job. Joe, a southsider from Palos Heights, quickly fell in love with walking in the city, and most of all, the wonderful dogs he walks every day. It came easy for Joe since he's had a golden retriever, Jack, for 10 years, and a black lab before him, Major, for 13. He's been around dogs his entire life and feels a special connection to them. For fun, Joe enjoys playing guitar and piano, and going on spontaneous road trips. He's blessed to have such a great job - hanging out with dogs all day, it really doesn't get much better.

On-Call Manager and Dog Walker

I've always lived here. I've decided to stay because I love Chicago. I love the seasons and the way the weather is always changing. I love the trains, mainly the Brown Line. I love that if I wanted to, I could walk over to Wrigley Field or the Lake or jump on the train and be downtown within the hour. The theater scene is great. My family's pretty cool too. I like them. I'm a little biased but my favorite would have to be golden retrievers. Close second is every other breed. I had a lovely golden retriever for 12 glorious years. Her name was Buttercup and she was the best doggie a girl could ask for. She is missed every day. I am currently trying to learn how to juggle.

Melody has had dogs and cats most of her life, and currently has a rat terrier and pitbull mix at home. When asked if she has a favorite breed, she said "That's a tough question! But I love giant breeds (Mastiffs, Great Danes, Bernese Mountain Dogs, etc.) and Pitbulls--they're so sweet!!" Originally from the "burbs" of Chicago, Melody started hanging out in the city to attend concerts and festivals, one of her many hobbies which also include reading, traveling, and taking photos. Kimberlee

Kimberlee

Dog Walker

Kimberlee is a Northwest-Chicago native who adores being outside and not confined to any walls or roof for a good time!  She’s lived here since she was born, and loves every season, crazy as that sounds. There’s something about the nature of this city to Kimberlee that even a simple stroll around the block can be filled with wonder. Take that stroll, and add a dog into the mix, and she’s happy as a clam. Kimberlee was required to go inside however, just for 25 years during an impressive Nursing tenure.  She’s a natural caregiver, which is what being a dog walker is all about, caregiving... but this time she’s back outdoors! Kimberlee couldn’t pick a favorite dog breed if her life depended on it - she loves them all! She’s had dogs, cats, rats, and rabbits her whole life and couldn’t imagine herself without at least one pet.  Kimberlee is a real inspiration to us all. Her message is simple- sometimes you have to just put the phone down, grab your dog, get outdoors, grab some fresh air, and take it all in, while you can (especially in Chicago). You just may have the time of your life!

Since I  was small I always knew animals were number one in my life. There was never a moment in my life when a four legged friend was not part of it. Animals, mostly mans best friend, helped me when I had fragile health, now it's my turn to return the favor. When I'm not walking a new friend I'm usually  found studying, painting, or at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Being a dog walker has allowed me to really learn how to bond with all kinds of pups, cats, and fellow animal lovers. I wouldn't trade this awesome experience for anything.
