About Us

Dogs Deserve It LLC® was formed in response to the pressing need for qualified dog walkers and pet care providers in the Chicagoland area.

Owner, Lauren Pietrocarlo, identified some shortcomings in the present dog walking industry and decided to address the issues. A dog lover herself, Lauren was aware of the importance of the daily walk to the health and well being of her pet. She became determined to create a service that would maximize its potential.

Lauren worked with a well-respected trainer to learn the proper way to walk a dog, the way to introduce and reinforce positive canine behavior during this daily routine. Clients benefit from this special attention to on-leash etiquette. DDI dogs are not aimlessly paraded through city streets. Instead, their walk becomes purposeful and engaging.

In addition, pet CPR certification is required for all DDI walkers.

Pietrocarlo left the corporate world to share her long-time passion for dogs. She is now using her communications and public relations experience to bring a fresh, professional, accountable perspective to the world of pet care.

Leash Etiquette

So, what dog doesn’t love to go for a walk? For the most part, both owner and pet look forward to this “together” time. However, does the excitement sometimes turn into a battle for power? Does your dog pull on the leash and walk you, instead of you walking him?

At Dogs Deserve It®, we provide direction to reverse this frustrating behavior. Whether your dog is a puppy or a more mature dog, rest assured that this negative on-leash behavior can almost always be corrected.

Our walkers have comprehensive training in DDI leash etiquette® skills. We will implement simple and easy techniques so that your dog will walk better on the leash. All of our techniques are force-free and may involve the use of specific leashes and collars. The Deserving Dog Etiquette® option is not a requirement.

Walker Tracking

We know that it takes a “leap of faith” to allow access to your home. We respect your trust and will not abuse the privilege.

DDI offers state of the art GPS walker tracking and Dogs Deserve It pedometers.

You receive an email as soon as the walk starts and ends, along with a GPS tracked map of the walk. Our service provides more than the typical, daily anecdotal report regarding your dog’s output. We will provide a detailed daily adventure calendar to personalize your pet’s experience, including a daily manners evaluation.

We are also proud to partner with Nest, an indoor security camera used for child or dog monitoring. We believe that Nest is a natural addition to our walker tracking services. We also provide Musher’s Secret Paw Wax to all clients free of charge. As always, Dogs Deserve It is committed to providing you with the most innovative and reliable pet care service!

General Manager

“I've been an animal person since I can remember.  My  grandparents owned a kennel, growing up I worked there during the summers, meeting all kinds of dogs, cats and the occasional lizard! I guess you could say being an animal lover was in my blood. We always had a family dog, and several barn cats! When I met my dog, Havok he was only 6 months old, I immediately did my research on training, a good diet, everything! Raising and training a puppy has taught me a lot,  I try to bring all the knowledge of my own experiences into my work. Every dog is different though and learning the personality of a dog and their unique "quirks" is one of my favorite things about dog walking! I try to use these special differences to customize my approach to our daily walks, always thinking of the dog and it's individual needs first.”

Since I  was small I always knew animals were number one in my life. There was never a moment in my life when a four legged friend was not part of it. Animals, mostly mans best friend, helped me when I had fragile health, now it's my turn to return the favor. When I'm not walking a new friend I'm usually  found studying, painting, or at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Being a dog walker has allowed me to really learn how to bond with all kinds of pups, cats, and fellow animal lovers. I wouldn't trade this awesome experience for anything. Proud adoptive mom of shy Chloe (Italian grey hound), playful Cody (shih tzu), and last but never least little Eevee (kitten).

I've always lived here. I've decided to stay because I love Chicago. I love the seasons and the way the weather is always changing. I love the trains, mainly the Brown Line. I love that if I wanted to, I could walk over to Wrigley Field or the Lake or jump on the train and be downtown within the hour. The theater scene is great. My family's pretty cool too. I like them. I'm a little biased but my favorite would have to be golden retrievers. Close second is every other breed. I had a lovely golden retriever for 12 glorious years. Her name was Buttercup and she was the best doggie a girl could ask for. She is missed every day. I am currently trying to learn how to juggle.

It came easy for Joe since he's had a golden retriever, Jack, for 10 years, and a black lab before him, Major, for 13. He's been around dogs his entire life and feels a special connection to them. For fun, Joe enjoys playing guitar and piano, and going on spontaneous road trips. He's blessed to have such a great job - hanging out with dogs all day, it really doesn't get much better.

Maida

Dog Walker

×

Maida

Dog Walker

Lured by the famed Midwestern kindness, Maida made the move to Chicago from her roots in Santa Fe, New Mexico ("where dog walking gains the drama of tumbleweeds and a high desert sunset"). Most of her free time is spent painting and reading, even if it seems there's not enough time for it in the day! She's also got a collection of [broken] instruments that keep her entertained and occupied. It's clear that Maida has an artistic quality to her, and this is one of the reasons she's enjoyed living in Chicago. Now that she's spending her time dog walking for DDI, the sudden and acute lack of dogs in Maida's life is now being fulfilled on the daily. Maida always had dogs (and other pets) in her household at all times, and she even took a course in high school for training assistance dogs! There's a special place in Maida's heart for Irish Wolfhounds and Greyhounds, but Maida can build a bond with any pup she spends time with. "I never get tired of a dog's curiosity, and I like being able to facilitate that. Plus, I find the sight of a wagging tail does wonders for my emotional well-being."

Dog Walker

Richie had cats when he was a child and had a dog through high school & college. After his dog passed away he hasn't had pets. A Chicago native, Richie graduated from UIC with a degree in Finance. "My favorite part of dog walking is the variety of dogs I get to walk and the different experiences each one offers. Each dog has a unique personality that creates a new and enjoable experience with every walk."

Born in Budapest, Hungary I somehow found my way to Chicago.  This city is great for doing the things I love like exploring, learning about history, eating and running. I am attending UIC for a degree in kinesiology which I am taking a little time off from. Found myself with a bit of free time so what better way to spend it than hanging out with Chicago’s coolest four legged friends.

My name is Greg, and I am a filmmaker and dog lover based here in Chicago. Walking dogs provides me with more than just money to pay the bills while I grow as an artist; it's a fun, energetic job that introduces me to all sorts of awesome dogs. I can't think of a better way to spend the week than in the company of these incredible animals we call (rightfully so!) "man's best friend".
